Liberty Township Green Pact
Press Release Liberty Township, Delaware County
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP GREEN PACT
5-YEAR ENERGY SAVINGS
PLAN AGREEMENT
Liberty Township is pleased to announce it has approved an Energy Savings Agreement with Eco-Engineering of Cincinnati, Ohio, a nationally recognized energy solutions engineering firm, to design and retrofit lighting systems in several Township owned buildings and create energy conservation solutions which save the Township tax dollars. The existing projections, barring the anticipated multi-year rate increases in electrical energy, should upon completion immediately lower the net operating costs related to energy usage by Liberty Township by about $8,000 per year which is about a 40% reduction in the lighting costs. These Financial Benefits represent a savings of about $40,000 over a 5-year period.
In addition, the energy solutions will provide better quality lighting for employees in several areas. This program will also provide many environmental benefits such as:
- Increasing visual clarity and a more pleasing/productive work environment
- Reduces existing fluorescent ballast noise and lamp flickering.
The Liberty Township Board of Trustees is proud to provide environmental leadership to the community in their role as public servants consistent with the Central Ohio Green Pact principles. The following Environmental Benefits also accrue to our taxpayers and the region as a result of these actions:
- The news Ballasts are recyclable,
- Prevention of emissions that project to
- 137,898 pounds of carbon dioxide,
- 1,758 pounds of sulfur dioxide, and
- 592 pounds of nitrogen oxides.
Stated another way, the Board of Trustees actions are equivalent to planting 22 acres of trees, removing 11 cars from the road, and a savings of 6,965 gallons of gasoline. The Board has also authorized staff to analyze the efficiency of outdated heating and air conditioning equipment with an intention to replace with high efficiency equipment in the next year at the Township Hall and Fire Station Headquarters.
