Customer Needs
There are many reasons why you may be evaluating an energy efficiency lighting upgrade and we may help you uncover some that you haven’t even thought of yet. Our experienced auditors and the operations team will work closely with you to conduct an investment grade audit. We conduct a detailed inventory of every component of your current lighting system as well as their performance. We literally count every ballast, fixture, lamp, HID, incandescent and sensor to conduct our analysis. Your lighting is then evaluated for efficiency, wattage used, light output generated and quality, the intensity and color rendition. The findings are then analyzed with a number of criteria in mind, lighting requirements for specific tasks or facilities, opportunities for energy cost savings and investment recovery time. We analyze your facility holistically – work areas, office space, exterior, common areas - to ensure the project is done correctly and completely the very first time. The final deliverable is a comprehensive audit with recommendations of what components should be converted, to what technology and the associated savings. This serves as the basis for our estimates, equipment orders and the design of your new lighting system. This thorough audit of your facility will help you quantify the impact of a lighting optimization in several areas, including:
- Operational Savings
- Operational Gains
- Environmental Compliance
- Safety and Security
- Project Execution
Operational Savings
Operational savings are realized on many levels and all help improve your bottom line. The reduction of kilowatt hour usage translates directly and immediately into lower energy bills. By standardizing your lighting configurations you will also experience a reduction in overall maintenance costs. Inventory maintenance will be streamlined, staff will require less training and the amount of time spent on replacing bulbs will be reduced allowing valuable time to be spent on higher priority projects. Finally, your energy efficient lighting project may qualify you for local, regional or national energy rebates or tax credits. The high level of community and governmental focus on the environment has driven volumes of legislation toward rewarding proactive energy savings. Eco will help you identify potential rebates or tax credits and will assist you in working through the process. The results of the audit will help quantify all of the projected savings and become detailed inputs for the final business case.
Operational Gains
Beyond the very real savings you will experience as a result of your lighting project, you will also realize operational gains that will improve your profitability. The quality of light in your work environment greatly affects the health, morale and productivity of your management and staff. By upgrading your facilities and offices with energy efficient lighting fixtures using the proper design, the quality of your work environment can be dramatically improved. Some of our customers have reported reduced glare from computer screens or printed materials that actually alleviates eye strain, headache and fatigue. Others attest to the impact a quality lighting system can have on reducing errors and absenteeism. Properly designed lighting fixtures make colors appear more natural and can transform a drab and dreary environment into one that is appealing and inviting. Eco’s customers typically report higher spirits, less mistakes, greater productivity and increased employee satisfaction following a lighting upgrade. Our audit of your facility will identify areas for standardization and areas where you can achieve the greatest gains in operational efficiency.
Environmental Compliance
There are environmental implications associated with all energy savings initiatives and we are very conscious of these issues. In fact, that’s why we’re in this business. Some initiatives may be required to bring you into compliance with emission reduction legislation and legal standards. While the primary objective in energy efficiency projects calls for reduced consumption and potential savings, there is great opportunity to demonstrate your real commitment to green initiatives. Eco can help you realize positive public relations that re-affirm your green policies and demonstrate your commitment to a brighter future. This delivers a high-impact message to shareholders, employees, customers, community leaders and the media at large.
In addition, the disposal of many lamps is regulated by federal standards through the Environmental Protection Agency under the Toxic Substance and Control Act. Lamps that have above standard levels of PCB and mercury must be disposed of according to those regulations. High levels of mercury are considered hazardous waste. PCB’s and polychlorinated biphenyls are also considered hazardous and have been shown to have detrimental health effects. Prior to 1977 they were widely used as insulators in electrical equipment but have since ceased being produced. Lamps containing PCB’s and high levels of mercury are restricted from being disposed of in landfills. Eco Engineering references the regulations of the state in which they are conducting an installation and the subsequent clean-up to ensure that the disposal process meets those state regulations for disposal and recycling. You will receive a certificate proving the hazardous materials were disposed of properly. This will protect you in the event that those chemicals are ever discovered in area landfills.
Safety & Security
With improved lighting the overall safety and security of your plant, store, warehouse, school or office also improves. Internally, the improved lighting will keep workers more alert and aware of the environment around them and therefore less prone to accidents. During emergencies, escape routes will be more navigable. Externally, well lit buildings and parking lots will deter criminals from breaking and entering or lurking in the shadows. Management and staff will appreciate the enhanced sense of security your lighting project provides. During the audit we will identify areas of safety concern and recommend the most efficient solution for your unique environment.
Project Execution
We carefully define the scope of all lighting projects and then “Plan the Work” so we can “Work the Plan” according to our established procedures and timeline. A project team will be assigned and all interface needs and communications/managerial protocols will be determined. We will perform a site construction survey, conduct intensive installation training specific to your facilities and will obtain all necessary permits and licenses. Up front we will determine materials management procedures and confirm hazardous materials disposal requirements. All safety compliance protocols will have been reviewed and the sequence of work will be laid in a final and comprehensive project schedule. Throughout the project we manage stakeholder expectations with relevant communications. We hold on-going construction meetings with action item follow-up, deliver site specific end-user communications as appropriate and we design and send daily reports, highlighting progress and any trouble issues. Our centrally managed approach to your project will ensure the project stays on time on budget, delivers an acceptable Return on Investment and won’t interfere with the daily, core operations of running your business.
