History of Eco
Eco Engineering, LLC was founded in 1993 as a specialized provider of energy efficient lighting services for local manufacturing and industrial facilities in the Cincinnati area. Most projects conducted in the early years were single building projects involving the retrofitting or upgrading of old lighting systems to newer, energy-saving lighting technologies. Eco soon evolved to add engineering and design skills to the actual implementation of lighting upgrades. Where the lamps and fixtures were placed, which ballasts to use, how temperature and sensing devices could impact lighting performance and which brand of lighting equipment was best - all had a major impact on the energy savings that could be realized. Eco’s idea of auditing the facility first - in a comprehensive, quantifiable manner - then designing a complete solution to fit that specific facility soon separated the company from the myriad of electrical contractors, lighting products companies and construction firms who also did lighting projects.
By 1998, the company had expanded to nearby markets in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. New ownership and a professional management team with both Fortune 100 and Energy Services Company (ESCO) experience joined the crew of lighting specialists, designers and field managers who had already done upgrade projects covering several hundred thousand of square feet of industrial work space.
From 1998-2005 Eco added process, discipline and financial expertise to the core business. Project scheduling and execution skills were noticed by customers who consistently applauded Eco by writing letters of satisfaction to the company after a project was completed. The company became increasing sophisticated at complex financial modeling to help a customer understand the payback criteria associated with a lighting upgrade. Plus, Eco began to investigate and understand the substantial number of local utility rebates, incentives and federal tax credits that would help customers achieve quicker return on investment. Eco expanded rapidly during this period as energy prices continued to affect business operating costs. Warehouses, distribution centers, office complexes, retail stores, malls, government, hospital and school/university facilities were added to the list of satisfied customers. Sales offices were added in the Midwest, Southeast and along the Atlantic seaboard. Partnerships and joint ventures extended the Eco presence to the west coast.
By 2008, Eco Engineering had become a major player on the national scene known for providing a comprehensive service involving energy efficient lighting. Customers include a variety of Fortune 500 companies from every sector of the economy. Projects have been designed, engineered, implemented and properly cleaned up across all regions of the U.S.; across more than 1 million square feet of space; resulting in a meaningful reduction in KwH usage among American businesses.
Today, we are the largest independent energy services company (ESCO) in the Midwest and rank among the leading lighting services providers in the U.S. Headquarters remain in Cincinnati, Ohio with regional offices in Columbus, Memphis, Atlanta and New Jersey.
