YMCA Turns To Eco Engineering For Energy-Efficient Program
Lighting Upgrade Yields Impressive Payback
June 3, 2002 -- CINCINNATI, OH In an effort to help companies lower energy costs through energy efficient lighting, Eco Engineering recently teamed with YMCA of Louisville on a comprehensive lighting upgrade for the organizations downtown location.
This 6,000 square foot location is a state-of-the-art YMCA facility that spans eight floors. It posed some fun challenges to the Eco team from an installation perspective. But according to Don Logsdon, Building & Grounds Director for YMCA Louisville, Ecos creative approach to these challenges was impressive. "Brian Roth at Eco is to be commended for his ability to find solutions with energy savings even in specialty areas like our pool, gym and racquetball courts," says Logsdon.
Logsdon continues: "I was pleased with the lighting that was installed in our branch. The technicians did a good job of working with our staff. They were also able to install around our schedule both day and night so there was no disruption to our business or its members." Three key areas of impact include:
- The facility is now experiencing a 45% reduction in the lighting portion of its utility bill.
- Total savings over a five-year period will be $124,000.
- The project will decrease lighting maintenance costs significantly including labor, materials and recycling.
- The energy savings from this project alone equate to 52 cars being removed from the road annually.
"This lighting upgrade is reducing YMCAs utility bills and decreasing lighting maintenance costs, yet it required no capital dollars on the their part, " says Tom Kirkpatrick, President of Eco Engineering. He explains that YMCA chose Ecos popular leasing option so the branch could pay for the project out of the monthly energy savings, rather than using upfront monies.
The lighting systems that Eco Engineering installed for YMCA also yield positive health benefits; the new ballasts are void of PCBs (a harmful carcinogen) and the lamps contain lower mercury levels.
Eco Engineering's goal is to help its customers realize greater energy savings while playing a part in preserving the environment for generations to come. Eco Engineering offers energy auditing and consulting, energy efficient lighting upgrades, and lighting maintenance services. Eco Engineering has completed hundreds of successful projects for customers such as JC Penney, Valvoline, Procter and Gamble, Duke Realty, and others.
