Embassy Suites Wakes Up To More Efficient Lighting
Hotel Chooses Eco Engineering To Complement Renovation Efforts

April 8, 2002 -- CINCINNATI, OH – When the Embassy Suites in northeast Cincinnati was ready for a renovation, they knew it would be the perfect time to consider both aesthetic improvements and more operationally-efficient upgrades. Eco Engineering’s lighting program fit both criteria. That’s why Embassy Suites chose to work with the Cincinnati-based company on a hotel-wide upgrade.

"Eco’s turnkey approach to lighting did get my interest," says Gary Porteous, General Manager of the Embassy Suites hotel. "But honestly I wasn’t convinced until I saw their proposal." He says that Eco successfully retrofitted all of the fixtures in every area of the hotel --from offices to banquet rooms to the kitchen. "Even our exit signs were included," adds Porteous.

But what really prompted Porteous to commit to Eco was the sampling the firm conducted to validate the savings. "Once we decided to work with Eco, we tested several lamps to ensure we were maximizing the savings while getting the ‘right look’ in the hotel. Eco’s ability to verify the savings prior to installation was very important to me," Porteous continues.

Dave Ketterer, Director of Operations for Eco, agrees that Embassy Suites made a good move to improve aesthetics and reduce costs. "But they’re also conserving the environment. What may seem like a small, relatively simple upgrade is a big break for the environment. "They’ll save $10,000 in energy costs over the next five years because of the more efficient lighting -- but they’ll also keep 212,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from being released into the air," states Ketterer.

Porteous simplifies Eco’s impact this way: "The hotel lighting looks great and we are saving money at the same time."

Eco Engineering's goal is to help its customers realize greater energy savings while playing a part in preserving the environment for generations to come. Eco Engineering offers energy auditing and consulting, energy efficient lighting upgrades, and lighting maintenance services. Eco Engineering has completed hundreds of successful projects for customers such as JC Penney, Valvoline, Procter and Gamble, Duke Realty, and others.
