Eco Engineering Helps Three Louisville Companies Improve Their Lighting, Save Money, and the Environment

January 26, 2000 -- LOUISVILLE, KY – Eco Engineering recently completed the installation of new energy efficient lighting technology at three Louisville area companies: Vivid Impact Corporation's offices on Bunsen Way in Louisville, Winston Industries's offices at 2345 Carton Drive in Louisville, and The Derby Cone Company's Jeffersontown, Kentucky Bakery.

Eco Engineering President, Tom Kirkpatrick says, "All three companies' new lighting systems will not only reduce the lighting portion of the company's energy bills by more than 50% and decrease the company's lighting maintenance costs, but it also required no capital dollars on the companies' part. The lighting systems Eco Engineering installed for all three companies will also have a substantial environmental impact. It will reduce concerns such as ballasts containing PCB and DEHP and high mercury lamps. Combined, the new system have the equivalent effect of planting 164 acres of trees annually, removing 80 cars from the road annually, and saving 51,290 gallons of gasoline each year. The new energy efficient lighting will also prevent the emission of 635,683 pounds of carbon dioxide, 7103 pounds of sulfur dioxide, and 2727 pounds of nitrogen oxides annually."

Vivid Impact is a full service graphics communications manufacturer. Vivid's goal when hiring Eco Engineering to install energy efficient lighting was to improve lighting quality for its employees while saving money and the environment at the same time.

"We chose to work with Eco Engineering because the company puts its money where its mouth is, so to speak. Eco installed sample fixtures in a few areas of our facility so we could meter the savings for ourselves before making a commitment to change the lighting in the entire building. We immediately saw a difference in the sample area. The lighting was brighter and our employees were very pleased. We could also see the savings Eco told us we could achieve were truly accurate," says Vivid Impact's president, Gregory A. Buchheit.

Winston Industries is a worldwide manufacturer of high tech foodservice equipment. The 30-year old company specializes in providing the highest quality holding cabinets, ovens, cook & holds, merchandisers, fryers and more.

David Shelton, Winston Industries' CEO, is very ecologically minded. He says, "Eco was selected based on their ability to help make Winston more environmentally sound and energy efficient, as well as improve lighting quality for the employees and help save on operational costs."

"The new lighting system Eco installed allowed us to take advantage of the economy the project offered and to improve lighting at the facility. For example, one of our experienced punch and shear operators told me that he no longer has to walk out of his area to inspect close work. The brighter bulbs installed by Eco have given him needed illumination right where he works, just from the change from old to new lighting. This kind of improvement saves us time and work flow stoppage, not to mention money on our energy costs," says John C. Heigl, Vice President of Administration for Winston Industries.

"We were impressed with the number of Louisville area companies Eco Engineering had worked with, and we liked Eco's validation of savings method that could be measured and compared. Our company will realize substantial savings, more than $22,000 over five years, at the Jeffersontown bakery," says Executive Vice President, Garry G. Buttermann, III.
