Eco Engineering Helps Derby Cone Improve Its
Lighting, Save Money, and the Environment
January 19, 2000 -- LOUISVILLE, KY – Eco Engineering recently completed the installation of new energy efficient lighting technology at The Derby Cone Company's Jeffersontown, Kentucky Bakery. Derby Cone's goal when hiring Eco Engineering to install energy efficient lighting that would reduce the facility's operating costs through energy savings, while improving lighting quality for its employees and helping to preserve the environment at the same time.

Engineering had worked with, and we liked Eco's validation of savings method
that could be measured and compared. Our company will realize substantial
savings, more than $22,000 over five years, at the Jeffersontown
bakery," says Executive Vice President, Garry G. Buttermann, III.
Eco Engineering President, Tom Kirkpatrick says, "Derby Cone's new
lighting system will not only reduce the lighting portion of the company's
energy bills by 59% and decrease the company's lighting maintenance costs,
but it also required no capital dollars on the company's part. The lighting
system Eco Engineering installed for Derby Cone will also have a substantial
environmental impact. It will reduce concerns such as ballasts containing PCB
and DEHP and high mercury lamps. The new system has the equivalent effect of
planting 27 acres of trees annually, removing 13 cars from the road annually,
and saving 8,432 gallons of gasoline each year. The new energy efficient
lighting will also prevent the emission of 166,946 pounds of carbon dioxide,
1,128 pounds of sulfur dioxide, and 716 pounds of nitrogen oxides
annually."
